W.O.W. - Wines of the Week

Obviously we love wine and we love to share our opinions about wine... otherwise, why would we go through the trouble of building and maintaining this website? Well, here we want to give you recommendations on great wines to try, from amazing value bottles to delicious treats to splurge on when you're out celebrating.

This will be the most updated article on the website, so if you like what we're offering up here please bookmark this page. Our mission will be to tell you about as many great wines as we can!

2004 Williams Selyem Russian River Valley Pinot Noir
Russian River Valley, CA
View website

A truly transcendent California Pinot Noir that screams Burgundy in its style and complexity. The nose was full of blackberry and cherry with hints of butterscotch, cola and clove. Unbelievably layered flavors of berries with fantastic complexity - like drinking liquid silk. A delightful finish completes the equation. One word of warning: restaurants really ratchet up the price of this premium Pinot, so try finding it in the store or online to experience this wine without getting taken to the cleaners.  Posted on November 17, 2007

2005 Dr. Loosen "Dr. L" Riesling
Mosel-Saar-Ruwer, Germany

A fantastic value selling at under $20, this Loosen Riesling is a slightly sweet, citrus-forward gem. Definitely a crowd-pleaser by nature, the Dr. L bottle is just a crisp, delightful Riesling with nice acidity and plenty of peach and nectarine in the flavor. A fantastic starter wine and great to drink on a toasty spring or summer day.   Posted on November 17, 2007

2003 Tinto Pesquera Reserva
Ribera del Duero, Spain

Made from 100% Tempranillo, this wine delivers strong blackcurrent, tobacco and coffee on the nose. Gorgeous deep violet color. Upon drinking the wine packs a good punch. Between medium and full-bodied with good concentration and focused fruit, stout but not overwhelming tannin and a lengthy finish. Will probably get better after a couple more years in a cellar. Very reminiscent of a Bordeaux but without the killer pricetag. Recently received a 94 from the Winter 2007 Wine & Spirits 21st Annual Buying Guide.   Posted on November 17, 2007

2005 Cakebread Chardonnay
Napa Valley, CA
View website | Purchase Online

Definitely a clean Chardonnay built to be enjoyed by the masses and consumed with seafood or shellfish. This is a wine that you can find in most stores and on many restaurant wine lists due to its easy drinkability and lush apple and melon essences. The use of oak is present but not overwhelming; a nice example of restraint in a world full of California Chardonnay butter baths. Crisp with hints of minerals with a full body and excellent structure.   Posted on November 17, 2007
