Barbecue is an American institution and enjoyed by millions across the country and the world.
Baby back ribs, pulled pork, hot links, beef tri-tip, chicken... just talking about it makes
hungry for some gool ol' fashioned Texas or Memphis style BBQ. With these hearty meals almost
always comes thick, intense sauces that bring huge, mouth-filling flavors. With all of these
elements coming together, how is a wine supposed to compete, and more importantly, pair up
and actually compliment a BBQ dinner? Most wines will be overwhelmed by BBQ, especially all whites Zinfandel is all about consumption with BBQ and the other types of big flavored comfort foods that so many people eat every day. It offers firm, plentiful fruit, lovely spice with plenty of peppery notes, which also helps balance out the punch of that BBQ sauce, especially those that offer up their own spiciness. Zinfandel also supplies only moderate tannin, so you can go out and buy a young bottle right off the shelf and drink it immediately with the meal that you just decided to cook up in the backyard. As a bonus, Zinfandel delivers alcohol content at up to an amazingly high 16%, so after downing a couple of glasses with that BBQ meal your hunger will be satiated and you'll be feeling pretty good as well. Here are some of our favorite Zinfandel producers:
